About:

I was doing some research for some other lost areas in the Bangor area when I ran across this one. Apparently there was an old ski jump site nearby the Universty of Maine located in Orono. The site also featured a small maintained recreational slope which offered tobbaggon racing and skiing serviced by a small rope tow. It was most popular for its ski jump and was a popular hangout site for the community. The exact location of the area is unknown and if any of it remains is unknown. Sources reference that it was located somewhere on Bennoch Rd. near the Stillwater River close to the Cemetery in Orono, ME. A lead from the Bangor Daily News confirms that the area did have a rope tow. "So, led by Gil, outing club members dutifully tore down the log cabin, trucked the salvage (plus some from a building beside the Bennoch Road ski jump and rope tow) to the base of Sugarloaf Mountain, and built a ski cabin which is still in use" (Bangor Daily News, 2002).
